Dr Goodenowe’s Breaking Alzheimer’s book, published in June 2021 is the story of how 15 years of research into biochemical mechanisms of neurological disease led to the discovery that low plasmalogen levels are a key factor in cognitive decline.
Studies show that plasmalogen levels are low in those with cognitive decline such as Dementia and Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinsons’s and Multiple Sclerosis. Research has also shown that levels are also low in Colorectal, Pancreatic, Breast and Ovarian Cancer, Heart Disease, Stroke and Diabetes.
Plasmalogens are membrane phospholipids. They have antioxidant properties and comprise fatty acids such as oleic acid and DHA.
Prodrome Sciences have developed the ProdromeScan blood test that measures key biosystem sufficiencies including phospholipids, plasmalogens and fatty acids/gastrointestinal tract acids.
The ProdromeScan blood test covers 14 sections:
Section | Analysis |
Section 1 - 4 | Membrane Phospholipids |
5 | Dietary Fatty Acids |
6 | Gastrointestinal Tract Acids (GTAs) |
7 | Iron Sufficiency |
8 | Methyltransferase / Choline System |
9 | Mitochondrial Function |
10 | Inflammation |
11 | Elongase 5 Activity |
12 | Peroxisomal Activity |
13 | Cholesterol Transport |
14 | Kidney Function |
The Plasmalogen Plus blood test considers just the Plasmalogens and Phosphatidyl Ethanolamines.
The Prodrome testing forms part of what Dr Goodenowe terms a three step ‘living systems’ programme;
This is something that anyone can do, especially with support from a Practitioner to optimise their health.
Dr Goodenowe has a Certification course for Healthcare Practitioners and a range of supplements, including Plasmalogen supplements.
In 2021 the ProdromeScan Certification Course was launched and we highly recommend this Course to become a Certified Professional.
The course is self-paced with 10 modules:
Module 1 | Introduction to Biochemical Prodromes of Health and Disease |
Module 2 | The Biochemistry of Life and Death |
Module 3 | The Biochemistry of Alzheimer’s and Dementia |
Module 4 | The Biochemistry of Plasmalogen Restoration and Augmentation |
Module 5 | The Biochemistry of Parkinson’s Disease |
Module 6 | The Biochemistry of Autism |
Module 7 | The Biochemistry of Multiple Sclerosis and ALS |
Module 8 | The Biochemistry of Cardio and Cerebral Vascular Disease |
Module 9 | The Biochemistry of Cancer |
Module 10 | ProdromeScan Report Interpretation Tutorial |
The training supports Practitioners’ ability to work with the ProdromeScan testing and supplementation options and to experience intensive learning to deliver targeted lifestyle, supplementation and dietary strategies for their clients.
Ongoing Roundtable Group meetings cement the ongoing learning and allow for discussion of case studies.
